Malletech Concerto Series CN21 Hard to Very Hard Birch Marimba Mallets - Product Information

The CN21 is a hard to very hard mallet that still rolls well at low dynamic levels. Hard to Very Hard- Multi-Toned.

The six models that comprise the Concerto Series have been designed specifically for those players looking for a heavy mallet with a big sound that will project through a large ensemble, but do not want the contact noise that is usually associated with this type of mallet. Compared to standard traditional mallets of similar hardness, the player will immediately notice proportionally more fundamental tone and greater volume. While many synthetic yarns suffer from high-pitched “tick”, this yarn is very quiet on the attack, while exceeding the durability and abrasion resistance of nylon.

Hard. Great for their specific purpose.

Comments:

These are definitely concerto mallets. I bought them knowing they would break in, but they became a lot harder then I expected when I first bought them. They can be REALLY hard. But they are also more multi-tonal then the description; at piano and softer I can get a beautiful medium-soft tone. The "Very Hard" on the other hand is incredibly snappy and creates a piercing sound when standing next to the marimba. It's the kind of sound that will really pierce through a large ensemble. Playing with a large ensemble or in a large hall will cover up any harsh tones, but I (personally) would not use these mallets for solo (or below middle C). Overall, I like them a lot for playing what they're meant for.

Great Mallets!

Comments:

These are by far my favorite marimba mallets. They aren't too heavy, but they still have a very full sound when playing at soft and loud volumes. You won't be restricted to any specific range with these. Great for solo work and ensemble playing too. On rosewood bars these are great. However, if your going to play on synthetic bars primarily you may want to go with something different.
