I was worried. I wanted a smaller bass drum but worried that it would end up sounding more like a tom. I pulled this baby out. Assembled it. Placed it on the floor under my toms and hooked up my pedal. Sat down and started to just play. The open, round tone is amazing. It sounds perfect for traditional hip hop, jazz, and even blue grass styles. I needed up putting a small amount of dampening in the drum for the bands I play with are more rock oriented. The snare also has a great tone for it's size and I will be using it primarily too. The snare I usually use is a tama rockstar steel. This little guy has a lot of character. Ibwould recommend this set up over getting a "beginner" kit any day and if anyone is looking for a more compact set up for shows or home studio.
