Tim Genis Deciso Timpani Mallets - Product Information

The TG2 or "Deciso" mallet originally started as a felt Beethoven mallet because of its bright character, full tone and quick impact. Basically a brighter version of the TG1, the differences are a slightly thinner shaft, less layering with the inner felt, and a cork core.

Articulate mallets for assorted specific passages

Comments:

I recently purchased these mallets and am impressed with their suitability for certain various passages in both 19th-century and 20th-century orchestral repertoire. They are relatively pointillistic in character but are reasonably tonal up to the forte dynamic. I definitely don't recommend them for louder passages interspersed with sustained rolls. They are certainly appropriate for various passages in the nine Beethoven symphonies but can be highly effective for other Romantic Era and 20th-century repertoire if judiciously applied on a case-by case basis. I like them particularly for several passages in Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste. I highly recommend this product for purchase.

Tim Genis TG2 Deciso Timpani Mallets

Comments:

The Genis TG2 Deciso Timpani Mallets are another excellent product from the Genis timpani mallets line. I find the mallets quite useful for a fairly broad cross-section of passages from the nine Beethoven symphonies. The TG2s seem to really "straddle the line" between articulate projection and reasonable tonal warmth and expansiveness. The relatively small diameter of the mallet-heads produces a larger sound than I had anticipated, a sound I would characterize as clear and strong but not pointillistic. The shaft length works well for some assorted passages from Beethoven's Symphonies 7 through 9 as well as selected passages from various key 20th-century works. I highly recommend this product for purchase.
