Tim Genis Staccati Timpani Mallets - Product Information

The TG8 or "Stacatti" is the hardest felt mallet of the bamboo felt series with exception of the Rite of Spring Mallet. It is the only mallet that uses American felt, but, like the TG7, has a slightly thicker shaft and enough weight so that the sound is full bodied while pointed at the same time. This mallet is built so that the core has more of a donut shape to it. The mallet utilizes a cork core so that the weight can be distributed more to the upper-middle portion of the stick, as to not be cumbersome when playing fast passages.

Genis TG-TG8 Staccati Timpani Mallets

Comments:

The Genis TG-TG8 Staccati Timpani mallets are an excellent product and I highly recommend the mallets for professional application. Their price has proportionately dropped since I purchased my pair so they are now more affordable. The 8s and the Dolce Staccati 7s have the smallest diameters for their respective malletheads and the 8s are the only mallets in the series utilizing American felt. I have found the 8s to be of maximum effectiveness for passages which seem to require both clarity of articulation and overall strength of sound without needing a significantly broader and majestic tonal color.

another excellent pair of mallets

Comments:

These mallets are beautifully wrapped and consistently elicit a timbre that is articulate and sharp but also reasonably tonal. I couldn't personally recommend them for any shorter or sustained passages best served by a very strong and resonant performance/stylistic approach (particularly on the 32"-30" and 29-28" timpani); that notwithstanding, the pair serves very well for overall tonal staccato playing.
