The Ludwig LB400B is an exceptional snare. I have played several hundred snare drums and find this to be collection-worthy and enjoyable to play. I am talking about the brass-shelled model with the Brass Edition Oval Badge. The original Ludwig heads provide a hint of the potential, but the drum truly began to shine once Remo Ambassador heads were installed. Off-center mid-volume to backbeat playing is exceptional. The tone is classic 1960s Ludwig. However, if you require low volume ghost note playing, you might consider swapping out the original snare wires for Canopus. Overall, this is a wonderful sounding snare drum with excellent build quality. She makes you want to keep laying down the quarter notes and hope the microphone can capture the magic. Recommended.
