Bobo-Ezekiel's Wheel (SP)-M/Steel dr. - Product Information
Ezekiel's Wheel for steel pan and marimba was commissioned by steel pan virtuoso Liam Teague, composed by Kevin Bobo, and was premiered in Dekalb, Illinois, on April 6, 2010.
Ezekiel's Wheel is based on the vision that the prophet Ezekiel had while walking by the river Chebar. It is outlined in the first chapter of Ezekiel in the Old Testament. The vision is quite detailed, describing, among many things, four beings, each containing a human face, three faces of animals, and four wings. What has fascinated many people about this vision are the wheels located underneath the beings. The are described as wheels within wheels with eyes all around them turning at abrupt angles and following the beings wherever they go. These wheels have not only caught the attention of theologians but also fans of science fiction, many of whome have concluded that the wheels Ezekiel saw must have been UFOs.
Instrumentation - Lead steel pan, 4.5 octave marimba (4 mallets)
Difficulty - intermediate-advanced (grade 5)
Internationally acclaimed marimbist and percussionist, Kevin Bobo is currently serving as Associate Professor of Music (Percussion) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
