Dream 20" Dark Matter Flat Earth Ride

I am a big fan of Dream cymbals. They have a lot of personality. I particularly enjoy the Dark Matter line, which are dark, gritty, and full of personality. I find them a refreshing change from the major manufacturers, which can be a bit sterile (with exceptions, or course). I also like Dream cymbals because they're affordable. You get a lot of bang for the buck. Steve Weiss had an excellent price for the Dream 20" Flat Earth I was looking for to play jazz. The cymbal was packed with obvious care, surrounded by plenty of cardboard, bubble wrap, etc. I was impressed and appreciated their attention to detail and customer care. The cymbal is outstanding and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. I'm also happy about my experience with Steve Weiss and look forward to purchasing from them again.

I have owned hundreds of cymbals as I buy and sell gear all the time and this is one of if not the best rides I've ever played. You get the articulation of a flat ride, but it can cut better and there is more wash available. The bell is small but cuts without overpowering the rest of the cymbal, and the crash is super deep and dark. Great with brushes and rods too, and it absolutely roars when doing rolls with yarn mallets. This is not a super loud cymbal, but it is very unique and expressive. Great for jazz, acoustic, fusion, world, studio, etc.

I'm becoming a total DREAM cymbal junkie! So far, I've got a set of 12" BLISS hats; a 14" BLISS crash; a 24" BLISS flat ride; and now, a 20" dark matter flat earth ride. As others have noted, these BLISS cymbals are hand-made, so each is unique. Given the amazingly-low price of these excellent cymbals, I'm enjoying #1 buying various cymbals, then #2 finding how best to play and place them. For example, for a while, I wasn't too happy with the 14" crash, so I used it as a top hat with a Meinl MCS bottom. Beautiful! Don't be afraid to PLAY with and to EXPERIMENT with these amazing BLISS instruments. As for the 20" dark matter: powerful and subtle at the same time! I use it with my 24" ride: when I want super-quiet and powerful, i use the 24". When i want something more present and in-your face I use the 20". The sound of the 20" is so deep and, at the same time, so bright! Beyond me to describe it in words? What else can I say? These instruments are amazing. Dig in; buy a few, over time; and enJOY the magic. Thank you DREAM!
