Ludwig Atlas Mounts - Product Information

The revolutionary Ludwig Atlas mount replaces an existing tension casing allowing you to turn it into a tom mount, cymbal holder, floor tom leg holder, or anything you can imagine. By having one less metal bracket on your drum, you can show off more of the finish. Replace one of your bass drum lugs and you can easily attach a cymbal arm. Put three on your floor to attach the legs. You can almost eliminate the need for cymbal stands by using the LAPAM1 Atlas mounts.

Awesome Mounts

Comments:

I have more than 1 drum kit. I use them on both my Ludwig kit & installed 3 of the mounts on a Gretsch Catalina Club Kit. The Ludwig kit came with these mounts. I use the mounts on the Gretsch kit so I could install a bass drum mounted cymbal arm ( Atlas hardware too) and 1 Atlas mount on a floor tom leg for a cymbal stand. This set up works great for me and has really made my stage footprint smaller and less stands to carry around from gig to gig.

Inventive solution

Comments:

I'd been looking to convert my DW hanging large toms to true floor toms with legs, but was reluctant to drill new holes in the shell. Ludwig's ATLAS mount is the (near-) perfect solution. The mounts replace existing lugs for the bottom head, and function both as lugs and leg mounts. Here's my experience mounting them on my Drum Workshop toms. First, they fit; the hole spacing for the ATLAS mount fits the DW lug holes. However, the mounting screws for the ATLAS mount are larger than those for the DW lugs, so I had to drill slightly larger holes. (Just a 1/16" larger, shouldn't affect things if I want to put the DW lugs back on the drum.) Second, since DW uses "true pitch" tension rods with a finer thread, I couldn't use those DW tension rods on the ATLAS lug/mount. Instead, I had to use standard Ludwig tension rods. Not a big deal, unless you don't have extra rods lying around. All that done, putting three ATLAS mounts on a single floor tom took less than an hour, and worked fine. Note that the ATLAS hardware is somewhat heavy, and with three of them on a drum, significantly increase the drum's weight. Also, three of these puppies stick out quite a bit from all sides of the floor tom, meaning it will no longer fit in a standard size case or bag. I found that my 14" tom now requires a 16" case. Good to know in advance. Bottom line, I like the ATLAS system. It works fine on Drum Workshop drums, with only minor modifications as noted. And I can easily remove the ATLAS mounts and return to the DW lugs at any point in the future. I think Ludwig has a real winner on its hands here.

Great versatile mount!

Comments:

I never liked band type tom mounts. These Ludwig mounts are the perfect solution. I updated the stock shell mounted tom mounts on my 1968 Ludwig kit. My toms sustain wonderfully with these mounts. They are a true isolation mount. There are so many other ways to use these Atlas mounts such as holding cymbal arms, floor tom legs, bass drum spurs, etc. Way to go Ludwig :)
