Burge-New Adventures: Ten Pieces for Vibraphone-V - Product Information
Eight of the compositions in this collection were originally written for a jazz or improvisational setting. Lines and Pattern Study in 9 are the exceptions and were written specifically for the focus of this book. The concept behind the project was to transform the other eight into works for vibraphone that could be performed by both classical and jazz percussionists. There are still some elements of improvisation in several of the pieces, but the emphasis is more on expanded variations of the original material. This for me was a new and refreshing musical direction. Vibraphone repertoire in general (while expanding in recent years) has always felt limited and slightly niche compared to literature for marimba. My hope is that these pieces will do some small part in broadening the possibilities available for the instrument.
