Zeltsman-Intermediate Masterworks for Marimba Volume 1 - Product Information
Intermediate Masterworks for Marimba Volume 1 for Solo Marimba was designed for the advancing student of the marimba, this book contains solos written by some of the most highly regarded composers of marimba literature today including: Robert Aldridge, Anders Hillborg, Steven Mackey, and more. The marimba solos in this book are great for study, recital, and performance. Each piece contains elements of both basic four mallet and very advanced four mallet marimba technique.
This first of two volumes of 12 new works each (16 works commissioned by the Zeltsman Marimba Festival, plus 8 winners of the ZMF 2008 composition contest) is part of the answer to the shortcomings of the intermediate-level marimba repertoire. The breadth of styles represented is both impressive and intentional; while they are meant to be attainable by and to grow the knowledge of students, their artful diversity is sure to inspire advanced students and professionals.
Includes a foreword by Nancy Zeltsman, short composer biographies, and program and performance notes for each work.
The entire collection was premiered and recorded by the 8 faculty members of the Zeltsman Marimba Festival 2009, and was released by Bridge Records in late 2009.
